HOW TO CALCULATE EFFECTIVE GATE WEIGHT AND CHOOSE A HINGE TO SUIT
Hinge capacity ratings are based on a square gate. A 100kg gate 2m wide with hinges 2m apart needs two hinges each rated at 100kg. A wider gate needs hinges rated more than the gate weight. This is where the Effective Gate Weight is critical. Eg. 100kg gate 2m high, hinges 1m apart has an EGW of 160kg.
